A city with busy harbours on two beautiful bodies of water. That calls for a double ahoy! And with a nickname like ‘the city of sails’ perhaps it should be a triple. The nickname is quite fitting for a city that has more yachts per capita than any other city in the world. Who needs a car when 1 in 3 households own a boat?!
But there’s more to Auckland than yachts, yachts and more yachts. The city is shadowed by the impressive Rangitoto Island volcano, which makes for some pretty remarkable photos. And if you’re into Maori myths and legends, ask the locals about the stories surrounding the volcano. Interesting stuff, just don’t expect a short answer. Or you can scale some serious heights on the Auckland Bridge climb tour, get some two-wheel action at the numerous bike parks, or go Tarzan speed through the trees on the Rainforest Express.
So if boats are your thing (of course they are, you’re on a cruise!) and you like a little bit of storytelling and a wee bit of action, then Auckland is the city for you. You could say it’s the city that will float your boat (a hem).
