The locals are fishermen who like to paint. Or is it painters who like to fish? You’ll see our confusion when you visit and discover that the townsfolk are as talented with a rod as they are with a brush. Crafty. And when they’re not fishing for salmon and painting masterpieces, they’re usually found popping over to Dunedin for a bit of a squiz. And who can blame them?
Dunedin really is a spectacular place. Some say it’s got the prettiest landscapes in all of New Zealand (shh, don’t tell the other cities). Established by the Scots around, well, yonks ago, Dunedin has one of the best collections of Edwardian and Victorian architecture – outside from Europe. But the view of the harbour is what Dunedin is best known for and it will stay with you forever. Big call, but so true.
Dunedin and Port Chalmers really are quite charming places. See what we did there? Oh never mind…
