Carnival ships sailing from Queensland’s capital depart from the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal<\/a> at Pinkenba, at the mouth of the Brisbane River. It’s a purpose-built terminal, but it’s not in the CBD. A quick note on names, since it trips a few people up: if you’ve read about Portside Wharf at Hamilton, that’s Brisbane’s older cruise terminal. It’s since been replaced by the Pinkenba terminal for Carnival departures. However, Portside itself is still very much alive as a riverside dining and shopping precinct, worth a visit if you’re staying nearby the night before you sail.<\/p>\n

Because the terminal is a fair way from town, build a buffer into your plans. Apart from a small cafe, there’s nowhere to eat once you’re inside, so best to sort breakfast or lunch before you arrive, and always check Manage My Cruise<\/a> for your exact boarding window before you lock in a return time.<\/p>\n

Lead With the Best of Brisbane Before You Board<\/h2>\n

South Bank Parklands<\/h3>\n

If you only see one thing, make it this. South Bank sits directly across the river from the CBD and does a lot with not much fuss: a free man-made swimming lagoon at Streets Beach, shaded gardens, and a wander-friendly promenade that never feels rushed.<\/p>\n
