Djúpivogur dates all the way back to… well, only 1992, but it was formed by three old communities coming together, and pooling their nature and history into a new town that's home to about 500. You'll find that "small and quaint" actually works quite well for the residents of Djúpivogur, which is known as a thriving arts and crafts community that stays in close contact with their natural surroundings. And what surroundings they are, with incredible mountain and fjord views, including in the picturesque Old Harbor area. Djúpivogur always has views like this in the background, for your enjoyment, like while taking in the unique granite artwork series made by a local artist. But even the harbor itself makes for great photos thanks to the colorful fishing boats… to say nothing of the sights within the Búlandsnes Bird Sanctuary, home to many of Iceland's avian species.
