Explore the tranquil Mousa Island at your own pace. Your tour begins once you depart your ship, when you’ll board the nearby Mousa Ferry. After a short ride across the water, you’ll arrive at the beautiful small island that’s been uninhabited since the 19th century. Mousa’s abundant wildlife makes it one of the best locations in Shetland to watch the shy but curious common and gray seals. You will also see an abundance of breeding seabirds, which may include Arctic terns; Arctic skuas and their larger relatives, great skuas; and tiny, nocturnal storm petrels. While there, you can also visit Mousa Broch, a preserved broch (tower) dating from the Iron Age. It is the tallest standing broch in the world, built without mortar between 100 B.C. and A.D. 100. Once inside, you can explore its beehive chambers and many galleries, or climb an internal staircase to an open walkway at the top where you will have a stunning, panoramic view of the island. After your tour, you will return back to your ship.
