In late December 2023 Low Isles was impacted by "a once in 100 year flood" following Tropical Cyclone Jasper. While the island is still the beautiful coral cay it has always been with its extensive bird life and habitat, being close to the mainland, floodwaters from the Daintree, Mossman and Mowbray Rivers caused damage to areas of coral. As living coral colonies are slowly recovering, you may still see green turtles and an abundance of fish life.
