Ride the Madeira Cable Car from Funchal to Monte, a civil parish that is surrounded by amazing views of the city from over 700 feet in the air. Once there, you’ll tour Our Lady of Monte Church and see its beautiful interior with a statue of Our Lady of Monte, the patron saint of Funchal, sitting above the altar. The church also contains the tomb of Emperor Charles I, the last Hapsburg monarch, who died in exile in Madeira in 1922.
