Details

Discover the island of Madeira on a panoramic drive that features sweeping views of the island’s dramatic sea cliffs, central plateau, and scenic southwest coast.

Board your motor coach and travel along the north shore to the small village of Ribeira Brava, perched on a steep canyon dividing the island. At the village, enjoy a brief tour before continuing to Cabo Girão, the second highest sea cliffs in the world, offering stunning views of Madeira. While there, you’ll enjoy a lunch that includes some of the island’s local specialties. In Cabo Girao, you'll have a chance to see the dramatic cliffs, scenic waterfalls and small valleys, each with their own microclimate. Proceed to Porto Moniz, famous for its natural swimming pools. Next, travel up to the central plateau of Paul da Serra, often described as the “Roof of Madeira”, measuring nearly 5,000 feet above sea level with dramatic cliffs at the end of the plateau's southwest coast. Afterwards, you’ll descend to Calheta, a fertile, coastal strip of land that produces sugar cane, bananas, and grapes. Take a tour of the distillery, Engenho da Calheta, where white rum is produced from the island’s sugar cane. You’ll have a chance to learn how rum is distilled and sample an island beverage made with rum and honey called “poncho.” Enjoy a slice of traditional Madeira cake before boarding your motor coach for the return trip to the pier leaving with a sweet taste of Madeiran culture.
