Details

Olveston House was built by David Theomin in 1906 and bequeathed with all its contents to the city of Dunedin in 1966. It is a stunning example of the stately architecture created for the privileged families of Dunedin’s high society. Get an intimate glimpse of the elegant lifestyle and the dreams and achievements of the family who lived in this graceful Jacobean-style brick and plaster mansion. David Theomin poured his heart and soul into this grand estate and its beautiful, manicured garden. The home grew resplendent with massive fireplaces, colorful stained-glass windows and impressive art collection. Then, explore the glorious gardens of the internationally renowned Dunedin Botanic Garden, next to Otago University, New Zealand’s oldest college. Established in 1863, the lower gardens feature rose and herb plots, a duck pond, band rotunda, Japanese garden, and the rippling waters of Lindsay Creek. The upper gardens are home to the famed Rhododendron Dell. Enjoy expansive views of lovely Otago Harbor and its colorful beach communities. Visit the Octagon, and Dunedin Railway Station, a jewel in New Zealand’s architectural crown.
