Dr. Wilfred Grenfell: Follow in the footsteps of one of the most significant people to step foot in northern Newfoundland and Labrador – Dr. Wilfred Grenfell, who worked diligently to improve the quality of life for the people living in these remote communities. To this day his legacy lives on in St. Anthony. This is an important part of St. Anthony’s history.
Tea House Hill: Enjoy the history as well as the views as you embark on a 20-minute hike to the top of Tea House Hill. Stop at several spectacular lookouts, including the original site of the historical Tea House and the burial site of Dr. Grenfell. Visit the museum, explore the different rooms, and see furniture, art and other various items belonging to the Grenfell family.
Grenfell Interpretation Center: Before returning to your ship, your tour guide will introduce you to the Grenfell Interpretation Center, which is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Dr. Grenfell’s legacy. You will then have the opportunity to explore the center at your own pace. Be sure to visit the Grenfell Handicrafts Gift Shop, where you can browse a selection of locally produced souvenirs and mementos from your time in St. Anthony.
Accessibility: This tour is not accessible for guests who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/low vision, or those using wheelchairs, canes, rollators, or other mobility devices.
Requirements & Restrictions: This is an active excursion, and guests must be physically fit, able to walk at a moderate pace for up to 1.5-2.0km and navigate over gravel, rough terrain and inclined surfaces, with maximum elevation gain of up to 200 meters. All guests, including infants, must purchase a ticket.
What to Bring: Bring a light jacket, or sweater.
Good to Know: This tour is conducted entirely by foot. Wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour operates rain or shine. The last hour of this tour is self-guided at the Grenfell Interpretation Centre. Your guide will escort you to the Centre, and guests will make their way back to the ship on their own. The tender dock is located 20 feet away from the Centre.
